BRIONES MEDIEVAL DAYS

As if it were a travel to ancient times, during two days, the small village of Briones goes back to the XIV century reenacting with detail the way of living of that age.  What makes the difference is that “Las Jornadas Medievales de Briones” (Briones Medieval days) is not a market, nothing is sold, but food and drinks by the organization just to raise funds to support the festival. The aim of the festival is to show the beauty of the village, its stone made houses, its streets……., and just to enjoy the visit, having a walk and admiring its glorious past.

We will visit more than forty thematic hallways, which will make us to remind the works and traditions form the past years, by more than seven hundred people dressed as in the past, near six hundred of them are naturals from Briones.
At the same time we will be able to admire the remarkable stone houses built by the novelty, to stroll through the cobblestone streets.... We will see fighters, blacksmiths, stonemasons, spinners, meat curers, cheese makers, wanderings, beer brewers, noblemen…, and so on a lot of more of our ancestors trades. 

 

 

You will come across a sword fight between knights from Castilla and Navarra, or with Holy Inquisition holding a trial for witchcraft trial, or with a thief in stocks carried by the soldiers to the justice. If you dare, maybe you will success through the “Baqueta” and then a beautiful lady could have her eyes on you.

If you feel hungry or thirsty, do not mind, you will be able to satisfy both in a bustling “Bodega” or in a very well provided “Mesón” where you will find very tasty local food and our famous wine.

And last but not least, when the night comes you will enjoy an extraordinary “Light and Sound Show” in which a well-stocked local theater group will represent the “Paz de Briones”, a real event Signed by Enrique II de Trastámara, king of Castilla, and Carlos II, king of Navarra, on March 31st 1379.
